Wound healing is the process by which a tissue repairs itself after trauma. In the context of wound healing of skin, the goal is to regenerate the tissue in a manner that the original functional and structural properties are restored, while minimizing the appearance of the scar. Wound healing studies are particularly useful in the preclinical phase to verify that a particular drug has no negative effect on natural healing capabilities. A straightforward way to evaluate the quality of the wounding process is to evaluate the tension load at rupture of the wound.
